PLASTIC WOOD, A SUSTAINABLE ALTERNATIVE

For a few years now, the landscaping sector has stopped using natural wood to make way for plastic or composite wood.

This change of paradigm is given above all to look for a more sustainable alternative to natural wood. Its main problem is the periodic maintenance with chemical oils, they are not very ecological since they encourage uncontrolled deforestation and are sometimes difficult to achieve and very expensive.

Plastic wood is an innovative material that combines the virtues of wood and plastic, a warm and beautiful aspect of natural wood and the good properties of plastic. Composite or technological wood is made from the combination of natural wood fibers, polymers (PE is the most used plastic thanks to its melting point and its mechanical properties) and stabilizers, with a high percentage of these materials coming from recycling

The most remarkable property achieved with composite wood is its high density which turns it into a material of high hardness, without defects or rotting. In addition, maintenance is no longer necessary because it does not easily crack or chip. This makes it a more durable and inexpensive material in the long run. Thanks to the extrusion manufacturing method, various geometries of high quality and at a good price are achieved. It can be worked with the same tools as natural wood, which is a great handling advantage.

At Designplast we are always on the lookout for new developments in the sector, and we are committed to applying new, more sustainable and technological materials in our projects.
